Brake cylinder on GS 1150 vs GSXR

Hi !
I am considering replacing the standard front brakes on my 1984 GS 1150 with a set of Nissin four pot calipers, (as found on the GSXR 750 88-94, GSXR 89-92 and Bandit 1200).

The actual calipers will bolt on without to much hassle, but what about the brake cylinder, (on the handle bar that is). Do I need to replace that one too? Does anyone know if the GS-cylinder is equal in diameter to that on these GSXR/Bandit? Or will the ratio towards the calipers be off, so that the actual travel of the handle will be too short or too long?

Thanks / Mikael

Sorry but i cant help you but your name cought my attention. Is the the hebrew name for meshack as in shadrach meshack and abednigo.??

Your stock master will be fine. I have a complete GSXR front end on my bike with the stock master. It also helps if you run braided lines.

After swapping the m/c from a '92 600 Katana to my bike, the only difference I noticed was that the banjo on the stock Katana brake lines was smaller than those on my '83 GS750E. The bolt hole size is the same, and the threads into the m/c are the same. this wasn't an issue, as my existing lines still fit the new m/c. I couldn't use the brakes, though - didn't have the resources to have new mounting brackets fabbed up to mate my old forks with the newer 4-pot calipers. Pity.

The m/c volume appears to be the same on both bikes, so yours should work. I'd go ahead and replace the m/c too, though - the newer brake switch has a plunger-type contact instead of the slider-type on the old GS's. Less likely to fail, and easier to find a replacment - in addition, the brake handle is 4-position adjustable on the newer models....

Thanks for your replies!

It seems like my master cylinder is compatible with the Nissin calipers. I totally agree regarding the brake light switch, what a cheap design.
I have been thinking of fitting a pressure switch elsewhere in the system, however a newer master cylinder would eliminate that need.

As for the name, I think not but I am not 100% sure.
