DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Brake fluid resistant paint?

Based on the limited information given, I could also conclude that Honda either uses something other than paint or nothing at all on the calipers.

There is nothing in his statement that says "brake fluid has eaten most of the paint off my caliper".

.

I don't know what ate the paint of the caliper on my honda, it could have been the gravel on the road. It came to me that way.

ohh I knew Steve would chime in when someone assulted the Honda name

I say, get it media blasted, then poweder coated and be done with it. I did see a sweet looking rear caliper and hanger on fleabay that was decked out in chrome. If i wasnt so opposed to having to polish a damn thing all the time, i mighta been after it.

Chrome doesn't appeal to me as much as it appeals to most, that is one of the biggest reason I don't like the bikes made in the last 10 years, they have too much shine. I will stick to the 1980's stuff, mostly black. But eventually when I get the brakes working I will have to resurface them somehow. Powder coating is a great idea!

One thing that always confused me with UJMs, and the various manufacturers attempt to capture the American eye, was the chrome front fender. Personally, i think its ugly, and MAN can it blind you when you catch a good bump sometimes!! LOL

I love nice new chrome exhaust pipes, other than that the bike could be black. The fender thing is so true. Also when you are following someone with a chrome fender that shines in your eyes too.

DOT 5 would save the paint on your calipers, wheels, tank, fender, handle bars and master cylinder.

Flame me if you want but I been using it to save my paint for decades.

Say what you want about DOT 5 not being equal to DOT 3 or DOT 4 but its benefits way out number its draw backs. If your concerned about moisture build up change it once a year, you should anyway.

is dot5 compatible with the old rubber hoses on gs bikes?

If you took one of your 25 year old rubber brake hoses and slit it lengthwise so you can see what it looks like on the inside, you would ditch it straight into the nearest trash can due to the scale residue from the old brake fluid. Flushing the system is not good enough to get this scale all out. Since DOT 3/4 and DOT 5 are not compatible, I don't think it's a good idea to switch over unless you replace brake lines, and take apart the calipers and the master to fully clean them out.
