A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Brake lines to fit aftermarket bars

Hi everyone,

It's been a long, time. I used to post on here in the long, long ago (2005-2007ish) as Wolfie when I had a GS850GL.

Anyway, I'm the proud new owner of a 1980 GS1100L that I'm going to mount a sidecar on. The bike is in pretty great shape over all. The master cylinders and calipers have supposedly been rebuilt, but I'm pretty sure it has the original brake lines.

On to the question already... I'm looking at installing a set of Bikemaster Daytona handlebars (29.2" wide, 5.36" rise, 3" pull back), and I know the stock brake hose is going to be way too long. I'm thinking about ordering a set of brake lines that are cut to fit an 80 GS1100E. I figure that should put me in about the right neighborhood.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

If you're going aftermarket stainless steel lines (and I think you should), you can get them in whatever length you need. Rennsport Auto is a popular retailer and they carry Apex lines. Or you can order directly from Apex for less than Rennsport Auto charges.

I agree with the above "Make your own" post. Measure and make them whatever length you need. I did it and if I can do it anyone can and probably cheaper than buying pre-made. I have $109 plus two hours work in the lines for my 850G.

Thanks for the tip and the links. I believe that's the route I'm going to take. My 06 V-Strom almost certainly has the original brake lines on it. I figure I'll go ahead and get everything I need to do both.

Ok, I ordered the parts for my new brake lines, front and rear. Same question in the clutch and throttle cables. Are the cables for the E pretty much the same except for length?20180405_084044.jpg
