A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Brake pad recommendation?

Getting ready to replace the rear pads on my 1982 GS850GLZ. Any suggestions on what would be the best bang for the buck? I've heard of EBC and Vesrah but I've seen references to others as well. On ebay I see some semi-metallic, carbon Kevlar and ceramic generic pads for good prices. Just curious as to what the recommended pad is for both the front and rear. Suzuki wants crazy prices for the stock pads.

At least some varieties of metallic pads tear up the stock rotors. Organic pads are safer in that regard.

Founds a set of EBC organic FA36 pads for $19.00 delivered on ebay so it looks like I'll get those for the rears. It's the rears that need to be changed first since they're almost at the end of life. The fronts seem to do good and have plenty of pad left so I can wait on those.

Any specific ideas on the front brakes?

For the front, get something that really brakes. For the rear, das macht nichts.

The various forum reports on the various cheapo Chinese brake pads on fleaBay are rather mixed. The ones I've tried have been terrible.

Best to stick with a known brand, such as EBC, Vesrah, Galfer, SBS, Ferodo, etc. EBC pads work very well, and are the most easily available by far -- just about every powersports dealer has an EBC wall with your pads hanging on it. EBC also tend to be a few bucks less expensive than the other premium brands, so they're quite popular.

There are also some slightly less expensive "house" brands such as Tufstop that work well, but availability is limited.

If your braking technique is correct, you'll wear out the fronts long before the rear, so take a moment for honest introspection.

As has been already mentioned, organic is the way to go with the OE semi stainless rotors. EBC or Ferodo are the class of what's on offer.
We roadrace on Ferodo platinum.
