    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Brake pad size for GS850 79 or earlier

I am currently overhauling the front brake caliper on my GS400L. It was very dificult to find spares for this model. But now i have managed to get a new dustcap and sealing ring as original spares, they was ok priced. But the brake pads was ? 260,-/set, whitch is a 1/3 of the hole bikes value.
It seems as The GS 850 before 79 also have circular pads, and those pads i can get as non-original spare part ($43). Does any one know the diameter of the GS850 79 brake pads?? If they are too big in dia, I will be able to machine them smaller.

Hi Mr. Jan,

Compare the part numbers. Suzuki did use similar parts across several bikes. The EBC part number for the '79 GS850G front brake pads is FA35. The manufacturer part number is 59300-44860 (supersedes: 59300-45890 and 59300-45891). What year is your bike? For the non-US GS400 you can look up the part numbers here: http://www.cmsnl.com/search/index.php?spbmbrand=SU&spbmmodel=gs400&spbmvin=

The brake puck without the screw hole measured 1.961 inches. The one with the screw hole measured 1.966 inches.
 
Thank you for the info, got some new pads today. Despite they do not have same sparepart no. in the CMS catalog they are nearly identical, except from some few 1/10mm in difference.

Hi Jan,

That's good news. Suzuki is known to have different part numbers for very minor differences, like if only the color is different on the same part. And a 0.3mm difference in size is probably another one of those minor differences that they thought deserved its own part number. It's just the way they do things.
