Duh, duh, dohhh! User Error Alert!
Duh, duh, dohhh! User Error Alert!
It's been a long day, and boy are my legs tired from all that jumping to conclusions.
I had BCCap do the old sniff test on the crankcase, and his nose said NO! to huge amounts of gas in the oil.
I had previously done the clear vacuum line and yes, there was a mist, and no draw of fluid like GSX's in his video post. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F8Q6XrpOFM
I tried it again with similar results so I have to conclude that the small amount of gas in the vacuum line is condensing from the mist when the engine is shut down.
I moved the bike from the center of the garage to the side this afternoon, and noticed that it had quite a lean to the left on the center stand, and the oil level looked quite low in the sightglass. When I looked where the bike had been previously, I noticed a hump in the floor, and the bike must have been leaning to the right.
Final diagnosis: USER ERROR! I knew the correct procedures for checking the oil, and I never even stopped to consider the garage floor could be that uneven.
The best news...the rain held off, and BCCap and I were able to get a ride in! The bad news...my battery is likely kaput (but that's for another time and a new thread)
Thanks everyone for your patient input. I always learn SOMETHING here from even seemingly simple problems.
