    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

brass or rubber washer?

I recently bought a carb kit for the 1982 model bs carbs.

When taking out the main jet washer, it was brass. And when I got the carb kit in the mail, it came with a rubber washer.

So my question is, should I reuse the brass washer, or put in the rubber washers? Which would be better?
 
Are you sure the rubber washer is meant for the main? Doesn't sound right at all. I would definitely reuse the brass washer. Perhaps the washer you received is for the float bowl drain?
 
Possibly, but the fit for the main is perfect.

But since the brass came out, and their still in good condition, I will reuse the brass. Better to be safe than sorry.

not seeing the rubber "washer" makes it hard, but could it be the O-ring that goes around the float needle seat?
 
No.

I put them back the way I found them. I got a 1980-82 carb kit, and there are some parts that didn't even come out of my carbs...

here is a picture of them (they're missing the float bowl gasket, and some parts are the old junk i took out.)





and here is the rubber washer on the right.
And if anyone can tell me what the hell that is on the left, it would be appreciated.




These kits are the best.
 
That aluminum plug I think is to reseal the access to the top of the pilot fuel screws. I'd leave it out.
 
Reuse the brass washer. The gasket you have shown, I think is for the 1980 model carb which has a slightly recessed welch plug near the bottom of the carb body. This washer sits in the recess to raise up the float bowl gasket so it seals better. On the 82 carbs this welch plug is flush with the carb body so you don't need the washer.

Reference #34 in this diagram for a 1980 750 E, The 1982 model does not show it.
 
It goes under the float bowl gasket near the intake side of the carbs. I have some carbs with and some without(on the same rack) There will be an indentation where it goes and if not well not. The kits do not come with a new washer for the main jet, it is reusable.
