I bought an 82 GS 650GL , the airbox was used as a Condo by mice for a few years and was totaly destroyed along with 2 carbs (mousie PP  ). I am planning on installing Pod filters instead of a new air box, My question is ....where do I route the breather hose that ran from the top of the Eng to the former airbox?????
Can I just install a small filter on the end of the breather hose, IE fuel filter ????
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I use a little breather filter, made by UNI. You can also make a catch bottle for it to go into.

When you change to pod's, you have to re-jet also. If you don't, you'll be running very lean.

I had mine hanging in the air for a while, the only issue I had, is that an oily film would get all over the top of my carbs from the slight vapor that comes out of the hose. I put the filter on to stop this, and it seems to have worked. You won't cause any damage by leaving it off, just might get a bit messy.

good call...i may route mine back around so it vents under the frame.

I see alot of jetting in your future with pods. Why not check out finding a replacement airbox from a salvage yard or whatever and put it back to stock?

If you are gonna pod it and all that might as well look for pipes, your gonna haveta jet her anyhow.

Just in case you are wondering... I recently finished installing a Vance & Hines 4 into 1 Exhaust, Pod Air Filters, a K&N Stage III jet kit and IT WAS DEFINATELY WORTH IT :!:
I installed a longer breather tube and rerouted it so it exits at the center stand stop.
The only problem is that if you go with Pods you really need the jet kit and if you increase the airflow IN then you need the free flow exhaust to increase the airflow OUT. It's a catch 22 with a beautiful outcome. :)

If you want to see a very simple breather hose/catch set up, check out my website. I made it out of the dust cover that comes with new shocks. I sealed the "bottom" with 2 layers of 2" electrical tape cut into a circle, placed in the dust cover and sealed that with a bead of silicone. The K&N filter fits in a notch I cut into the side. The bottom of the filter sits about 1/2" above the bottom. Once in a while if there's discharge in it, I just lift up the hose/filter and stick a napkin in there and it sucks it right up.
Very clean and never in the way. At first I did'nt know I needed a catch, but after several hundred miles the filter started dripping.
Just click the WWW symbol below if interested and look for the breather photo.
