A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Breather hose with pods?

Go to the grocery store and buy a kid size water bottle (12 ounces) in black. Remove the water nipple pull out thingy from the lid, leaving you a perfect place to put the hose in the top. Thick black wire ties to a black frame, and it becomes an object of stealth.

Ray says if you want to put a return back to the engine that you should tap into the engine case above the clutch basket and run the return there.

:-D
Thanks Ray

Ray mentioned having a return line to the engine.

There are at least two fitting on each of the ones I've seen. So if you run the breather hose to one, do you hook the other to the breather filter? How would you route the oil back to the engine? What would get it there?

TIA
Yes, the other is the vent line, not a return line. If your pulling from the top of the motor, doubt you will see much oil. My old worn out GS will maybe show a few table spoons after a season. Now if you remove the pads from the beather cover that keep the oil from splashing around, you will have issues. So you already have a return system built into the motor. The pads act as a filter, and gravity does the rest.

The only time I heve seen anyone return oil to the cases is with a turbo (has to return). The vapor that gets into the can is nothing I want in my motors anyway.

On the race bikes, we use an electric pump on the race bikes to pull a vacuum on the cases and still just vent to a pop bottle. I will say, those fancy bottles do look nice.

I bought my hose from www.summitracing.com They carry a bunch of different brands. I think mine was the Spectre brand. You can buy it in various lengths. I used it for the crankcase vent line, oil cooler lines, and fuel line.
It's 3/8".

Well I went to Autozone and saw they carried the Spectre line but the shortest they had was 3 feet. I figured I would buy it and cut it in two and use the rest as an actual fuel line.

Instead I used the whole length and routed the line almost to the end of the exhaust, Behind where the passenger foot peg connects to the frame. Hopefully now when I ride, I won't smell like a refinery afterwards. (or at least less than I used to.)

Will this vent line get hot enough to worry about what it's touching?

I got this answer from Ray later. I agree, I was just making sure that if I do get the container I selected, I could go to a sump return later but it is probably unnecessary. The PO on my GS1100 just had the K&N breather hanging just above the pods. It had a little oil residue but it is not like it was any major blow by problem.
