If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

BS32SS emulsion tube cracked (gs650gl)

I was cleaning my carbs again and I found my #2 carb emulsion tube was cracked on the edge near the base going into the fuel bowl.

Factory Pro does not make a replacement and I don't even think they are replaceable.

Before searching junk yards ( I may do this anyway) I wonder what would be the effect of soldering up the crack. I am a good sweat solderer and I do not think the tube would ever get hot enough to melt the solder. (It is immersed in gas!)

Any suggestions?

Could you post a pic so we know exactly what part you are talking about. Different people from different countries call things by different part names.

To me here in Australia the emulsion tube is the Needle Jet which also holds the main jet. These are removable and replacements are available. Is this the part you are talking about.

yes there is also probably a Mikuni Marking on it like Y-5 (GSXR 750) or O-8 (GSXR 1100)

Not syre what year you are but : the 1981-82 650GL shows

38.JET, NEEDLE (Y-7)

Partsshark.com shows the price as:

$14.95

The tube I am talking about is on the side of the carb going into a hole in the side of the fuel bowl.

This picture calls it the choke circuit fuel pick-up tube.

There is a crack near the end that squirts carb cleaner when I spray through the upper holes.

OK Bill. My point proven. We call things different things depending on where we come from.

That choke tube is not replaceable in my experience. I don't see a problem soldering the split/crack as long as it is done right. And you say you have the expertise, so there shouldn't be a problem. And this part is only in action when the choke lever/knob is in the ON (starter) position. Once the choke lever/knob is off and the throttle is open this part has no effect on the rest of the carb operation.

What would be the main effect of the crack?

What would be the main effect of the crack?

Will I run rough till it warms up or will it still still suck fuel as needed.

If it is just choke I think I should be ok.

Thanks for making me less worried.

Thanks for making me less worried.

I may still look for replacement #1 and #2 eventually, but I want it running off choke first.

Thanks again for the good feed back.

Bill

It might be hard to get all four cylinders running the same when the choke is on, but who cares really?
It should run fine with the choke off.
