DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi amigos.
I rebuild the engine; bored, piston, piston ring. I have guided from the Haynes manual (chapter1, section 41). The question is that it spits black oil from the left exhaust. Will be the head problem?:-k
thank you Amigos for your help! :)

Not familiar with the 450's but:

1. Did you make sure that the ring gaps were offset and that the rings were on the correct side up?
2. Did you check the valve guides for wear and fitment? (I think they also have valve stem seals...but not sure) :-k
3. Have you run the engine long enough for the rings to seat in.
4. Checked compression and adjusted the valves?

How many miles on the rings? Mine smoked a lot the first 50, less on the next 100, and zero after 300. Although mine never spat oil.

response!

Thank you Amigos:

  • Rings is new.
  • I didn't check the valve guides.
  • I didn't run the engine to much.
  • The valves is adjusted.

Put a few hundred miles on the bike and see if it clears up... ;)
I'de stay away from the long straight stretches and run up and down through the gears for the first 100 miles or so.

Hi Dave:
Thank you for the help!
I will follow your advice.:)

I have a friend who replaced the rings and bent one of the two oil scrapers when pushing the #4 piston into the cylinder. He straightened it, as he could not get another set, but it smoked and threw quite a bit of oil out of the exhaust. You could see it clearly on the #4 plug. I gave him a new set and the same thing happened. He got it right with the 3rd set. He was very embarrased as he reconditions small engines for a living!!
Check your plugs to see if it is a specific cylinder or not.
