I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I own a 81 1100 gs. It burns oil quite badly out of one pipe. I bought the bike last year. the mechanic that replaced the stator said he did a compression check on itand #2 cyl. was low. He also told me a idle screw or something was stripped on the carb. he cleaned the carbs but said thats why it dosent seem to idle right. It drips gas when idling. I was only getting like 20mpg on it. The mech told me to sell it. Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem. Ive considered selling it and also have considered trying to fix it myself. Im not sure what Im getting into. Thanks for your input.

Randy

Sounds like it needs a carb rebuild and maybe even replacement of one of the carbs. Most likely new rings in #2 as well.

Is the smoke whitish blue? If so, it’s oil – which means a mechanical engine problem. Could be the petcock was leaking into the engine which washed the #2 cylinder wall and glazed the cylinder and/or stuck the rings to the piston. It’s a long shot but you can dump a few ounces of Marvel Mystery Oil into the cylinder and leave it soak for a few days to try to attempt to free the rings – just in case this is the problem. Of course, check your petcock to see whether it’s leaking or not, and if it is leaking, check for gas in the oil.

If this stuff doesn’t help, you need to pull off the top-end of the engine and inspect all the parts. This kind of work is pretty expensive and for heavens sake, don’t take it to that monkey that worked on your carbs.

Thanks Nessium, The smoke is blue I dont know if I would say whiteish though. Im pretty green at this and Im sure you can tell. so my questions might seem alittle basic. How can I tell if the pet-cock is leaking. are you talking about the gas tank? Please be patient with me. I relly appreciate your input. would my bike only get 2ompg if this were the problem.

God Bless, Randy:oops:

Pull off the fuel line and vacuum line at the petcock. No gas should flow when the petcock is set to "ON" and "RES", but gas should flow when set to "PRI". Assuming you pass the first test, get some clear tubing and install it on the vacuum port of the petcock (smaller nipple). Suck a vacuum with the petcock set to ON or RES, gas should start to flow out the fuel nipple of the petcock but should not flow into the vacuum line. Often times the rubber diaphragm inside the petcock gets a hole in it and leaks into the vacuum line…and down into the engine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks I will give this a try. I wont be able to do it right a way but Ill sure let you know how it goes. what do you ride
