My 8 valve 1100 has a ragged sounding buzziness between 4100 and 5100 rpms. Real smooth up til 4000 and at 5200 it starts to scream but pulls crisply without excess vibration. Carbs synced, valves adjusted, floats right, bolts seem tight and this buzziness occurs regardless of gear or throttle position. You can ease up to 4200 without opening the throttle much or grab wide open throttle to bolt up quickly and the results are the same. I haven't investigated the cam chain tensioner as suggested in a similar thread. Is this just a fact of life with the 8 valve 1100's? I read somewhere the 1000 G's were smoother with a different stroke. Oh yeah, I do have a 17" rear wheel instead of the stock 16" that comes on the GL so it runs about 6.25% fewer rpms at a given speed which I guess is like tampering with the gear ratio. I was planning on going back to the 16" wheel when I wear this tire out. The housings of the gauges seems a little loose also. Any ideas?
