    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

This is frustrating and maybe embarrasing. This is my first bike, my throttle cable (1982 GS1100G) broke today, left the bike at work and my wife picked me up. I went to the BikeBandit site and looked for a replacement cable but it shows no pictures, does it come with the assembly?. Then I decided to buy replacement cables for all just in case. I found a Clutch cable but no BRAKE CABLES. I went to my CLYMER manual but it mentions nothing on cable replacements of any sort. Why?
If my front brake cable breaks, how will I replace it?
If I am being ignorant is because I am. If, on the other hand, I am just looking for the wrong part name, please let me know.
Help please! I just want to know what do I need to buy to keep a spare set of cables for my front break
 
Brakes are hydraulic, there wont be any cables. Just a hose.
 
Thanks, I don't have the bike with me and never paid much attention to the cable structure. It is a great relief thou!

My first bike was a 1978 GS400 with cable operated drum brakes. So you weren't totally crazy to be thinking brake cable instead of brake hose.

Many of us with disk brakes have replaced our old brake hoses with braided stainless steel brake lines. They don't swell when you apply the brake like the rubber hoses, so the brake lever has a much firmer feel and is more controllable.

Two excellent suppliers of brake lines are Paragon Performance and Spiegler USA. I would recommend staying away from brake lines made with screw-together fittings at your local bike shop -- you want the stronger and safer crimped fittings made by a specialist.
 
Hey JRIVERAS, My clutch cable is about to go too. I ordered one from bikebandit.com though it wasn't easy to find. Its catagorized under the handlebars for some odd reason. At least it was there for my bike (gs650gld). Check it out and good luck.
 
Yes, the cables are in the handlebar schematic.

Anyone who has ever broke a clutch cable while out riding knows how imprtant it is to keep them in good shape. They always break at the ball end right at the lever. I ride with a spare now wrapped up under the seat.
