A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So ready for a story? Some girl knocked my bike over yesterday... I was ****ed, but she only smashed the throttle to pieces. So I started to tear off the airbox and found it was grimy so I cleaned out. Now I am waiting for a throttle in the mail, so I bought clubman bars also and I am going to start transforming this stock bike (only 13.5k) into a more cafe looking retro bike. Plus I decide that while half of everything under the seat is off anyways might as well just redo the whole of it.
Here's the question- Anyone know of shorter forks that will bolt right on with the 83 650?

Just raise the forks up in the triple tree a couple of inches.Be careful it will change the handling .

Thank you and some more questions

Thank you and some more questions

Thanks for the suggestion about the forks. IT should make handling shorter right, i.e. close in the turning radius? Seems we are taking a different approach with the L, but its all good. My first question is an easy one. I have lost my clymer but want to do an oil change, do you know how many quarts it is with the filter changed also? Also, what is the appropriate gear oil level on the final drive? Do you just pop out that one screw there on the final drive and make sure there is some in there or what? Thanks!
I love our bike, but mine smokes... don't want to redo the valves.

3.5 qts. Use the sight glass to make sure and also once you have it just above the F in the sight glass, run the bike for a few seconds and shut it off. This will fill the filter. Leave it set for a few minutes and add to the F.

For the final drive, fill it to the bottom of the fill hole located on top of the final drive unit in the 1 o-clock position.

Thanks again!

Thanks again!

Dave- thanks for all the replies... very helpful.
