A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Well I'm not really sure at the moment, I need to spend some time in photoshop I think. What kind of threw me off was the condition of the seat pan in the stock seat. I was going to cut the pan up in the modified seat, but I put it on today with the thought of cutting the stock seat up instead. That won't work, when I got that seat off ebay it wouldn't even bolt on without some "massaging" (bfh). I think it was on a bike that was dropped or wrecked. Seeing the bare pan for the first time, it's got a few cracks and lots of distortion, don't really want to use it.

The modified seat is on the bike's original Michigan pan, so it has some rust naturally. I'm kind of nervous about cutting that one up since these early pans are really hard to find... Since I'm down to one seat now I'm going to wait until summer when I'm working 2 jobs again so I can afford to have the upholstery done.

I think I found the style seat I want to make, something like this

Thought I'd show the bike with the old seat on. I tried fitting the tool bag under the seat but it's too big... need to order a smaller one that's soft leather.

Been enjoying my bike :D Rode to work in the rain the other day in fact, and probably will all this week. I love it, don't care about the paint too much since I'm going to re-do it this summer, and I don't mind it being dirty. Imagine that, a cafe that's actually ridden :p Runs like a top with the new mufflers, the old rotted out ones must've been restricting it something fierce. Starts the second kick too even when it's cold. Still has nasty blow-by though :( Got pressure on the vent hose from the valve cover, it'll have to be torn down and made a 650 I guess, oh what a shame

So strange, I don't understand why I enjoy this bike just as much as my FJ, with the condition this engine is in it's probably making close to 100 less hp. Someone told me it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than it is a fast bike slow... must be true.

Just a status report, I'm a happy camper so far

Got started on the seat yesterday, made a MESS, dang foam goes everywhere. Used the bent stock pan I had laying around as well as the stock foam. It was too soft so I ended up adding in some stiff stuff to get things to where I wanted it. I like it, now it needs to be covered.

I tossed some vinyl over the foam just for something temporary, this seat sucks... it's too soft, looks funny, etc. My stupid cover makes it look even worse, and it's held on with duct tape! I found a company 2 hours from here that does custom motorcycle seats, you ride in and he fits them to you and everything. I'm gonna go that route I think once I hear back about the cost. I rolled it out in the sun for some pictures, still a bit cold out for a ride, maybe this afternoon. Also touched up the paint a little, this spray paint is proving not durable in any way shape or form, powder coat is around the bend I think.
