I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I'm rebuilding then brakes on my '82 GS 550M (Z) and I'm a little perplexed by the axle bolts. They have a couple of grooves in them, which look like they should have o-rings - see no. 8 in this fiche:

Mine didn't have any (but were also missing the seal between caliper halves for the rear, so wouldn't assume it's correct) but o-rings are also neither in parts fiches nor in any rebuild kits I've seen.

I looked through the guides on BikeCliff's (excellent, thanks for that!) site, and the one for earlier models shows similar bolts with o-rings on them.

If these later model calipers don't use o-rings on the bolts, why do they have the grooves?

...and one more question, would anyone happen to know the dimensions of the seal (flat o-ring) between the rear calipers? PN 6910734200

It was completely missing from mine, and that little bugger will cost me $45 shipped... unless I can find a "generic" one with the right dimensions and material (EPDM I assume)

No O-ring on the caliper bolts, which are in effect sliding pins. The groove is to hold grease. Use heavy thick moly caliper grease.

No idea about the rear caliper O-ring size. It wouldn't be hard to figure out using some clay to measure installed height. I don't know what material to use for a brake system so can't help you there.

Ahhh.. of course, that makes sense. Thanks!

Thanks, good find! I'm unfortunately used to expensive... my wallet is still crying after ordering new intake boots :)
Bookmarked for future use.
