You're measuring the float height at the wrong location. The 22.4mm height is measured at the base of the step. Not the top.

Is the center of the circle, where there is a step that goes down to the start of the round part, the place to measure?

You got it. From the base of the float gasket (no gasket in place) to the flat area of the step.

Ok so.. adjusted these to 22.4mm i was in a bit of a hurry so ill take pics tomorrow... i hooked it all back up, and seemed good on the resevior.. than soon as the bike started running it started pouring out the same port and out the main air intake whole (the big one).. when i installed the little float needle retainers... it looked to me like they block the float tab from pressing the needle all the way... tomorrow im going to pull em off again and then try it all over and doubke check all my measurements and send you beautiful people some pictures

Post a pic of your setup. Also, if the needles are collapsed then they will touch the retainer first. Remove the retainers. They're not really needed.

I didnt think they were.. i bought new needles but the plunger or spring inside feels weak to me, the pld pnes seem a little stiffer.. ill try new needles/old needles with no retainers tomorrow and take a picture of where im measuring, should be around 2 o clock tomorrow. Thanks again

How are the orings on the seats themselves???

Well i did notice on the test when i held the carbs right side up without the float bowls on, and pressed the needle physically, that one brass seat does weap. Its not horrible, its a light weap, not saying it will not be addressed but.. when these carbs start leaking its like, fuel on, 3 seconds, all start pouring fuel out.. i really think its the float level, or its the little retainer blocking the needle from being pressed with force. Do your guys' floats look level or even parallel with the main body?

well yes i get it..but remember that with the tank hooked up you have all that fuel weight from above pushing down on the seats and that pressure may move them out a tad more and make the weap and pour. i saw someone posted the retainers arent need. Use them and be sure the seats are SEATED AND HELD STILL. They DO NOT interfere with anything as was posted in that comment. if your stops are set and the floats are set right the retainers dont hit anything.

Seen some aftermarket float needles that had shorter then OEM stems that caused some interference issues. Just suggesting to verify with the retainers out to rule that out as a cause. Still waiting on pictures of the setup.

When i get to the garage around 2 pm today (its 1030 here) i will post pics, of retainer orientation, float measurements, and maybe a video of what happens if i can figure out how to film it while controlling everything. Does the retainer have an orientation so that it does not interfere? Why isnt any of this in my 30$ shop manual haha...

Correct, the new needles feel like the stem has a weaker spring, the float tab deff. Hits the retainer, but is still depressing the stem about halfway i would say.. without the retainers, i felt no bind whatsoever when checking float travel.. i may bend the stop tab up a little and run without them after all this. But today i will take pics before i take them off of the clearence issue, and try both new and old float needles

Ok so... heres some pics of the retainer depressed and it hitting. Some pics of my measurements, looks to me like hey are all between 22 and 22.5mm which is want i want. I figure if they are on the high side it will give more force. Also lookes like it depresses the needles plunger until the tab hits the brass seat... was almost thinking about trimming the edges off so it can push harder into the seat opening. And aparently i can only post ine pic per post sorry guys

Side by side with old and new... looks like new could be just a smidge smaller if any. The spring is a tad softer

This is the orientation if the retainer. So now that the floats are adjusted, this is the last combo i havent tried. No retainer, old float needles, adjusted at the right spot. Ill give it a go and try not to sell the bike for scrap before i can post an update

Looks to me like the brass seat isn't all the way into the bore. Or, it's an aftermarket one that is too tall.
