    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cam Chain Guides - where to buy?

Ok, I looked over my plastic guides and they have little cracks all over them. I need to replace them while I have the cases split.

Currently showing approx $80 bucks from BS for two little pieces of plastic. Ouch!

Anyone know of cheaper source?

Suzuki Monster Parts has the front one (#2 on fiche) for my bike for $27.00. The back one is expensive! terrylee
 
Yeah, that's what I figured. Dang this rebuild has completely blown the budget out. I'm in 600.00 already and now I gotta drop another 80 for two pieces of plastic. This is going to be a 900.00 dollar engine rebuild by the time it's over...
 
Oops, I was way off. It's not 80 bucks. The rear one is 347.00 bucks!! Dang that's just stupid. I'm thinking of buying a block of chain guide plastic stock and cutting my own. Will be 1/10 the price if I can do it. Man this just blows...
 
I did. My original crank was bad so I bought a complete 550 lower end but it did not have the chain guides. With the 650 jugs, cylinders and head I'm about 450 for the motor which isn't so bad. It's all this other junk like clutch, an upgraded R/R, gaskets, cam chain guides for 357.00 dollars that are killing me. I can put my old ones back in and hope for the best but I can see the hairline cracks in the plastic so It's just a matter of time.

I did find that the 1983 front guide is way cheaper than the 82 version but it's a different part number. I can't see much of a diff though from the fische. My plan now is to try and find a cheaper version that will work. Any help would be appreciated.
 
the cracks are normal over time.
i wouldn't sweat it.
i also wouldn't pay the price they want for a new one.
if you was running heavy valve springs and big cams...that would put a lot of pressure on the chain/guides...when running stock parts the chain is just sliding across the guide.
in the end it's your call.
