    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have already changed to 29mm smoothbore carburetors and a 4-1 exhaust. I am also going to put pods on then rejet the carburetors. I am also looking at buying a set of cams. I would like to know what the following means to my 1978 GS750E in terms of performance

They give .060" more lift than stock, 40 degrees more duration.
Some heads may need shim-pocket clearance work. What exactly does this means? What type of work is it exactly?

That's a high lift cam meant for racing only. The pockets in the pistons most likely will need to be fly cut to deepen them to allow for the increased lift. The guides will probably need to be shortened as well. As for the shim pockets, the tappets have pockets in them that the adjustment shims fit into. They may need to be deepened to allow for the extra lift.

I agree that sounds like way too much cam for street use. I would recomend webcam, they can supply you something for your needs. Dan
 
The set of cams I found was used and was not going to cost :shock: $400.00. I will stick with my stock setup for now.

A cam with .060" more lift is very streetable....40 degrees more duration is NOT very streetable....Shim pocket clearance work is a poor choice of words, I think they mean minor cutting of the top of the lifter bore in the head. If the cams are ground on a stock "base circle" and the lift is high enough, the cam lobe will hit the top edge of the lifter bore before contacting the shim. I know, I'm looking for some used cams also. During the winter Fleabay has alot of used cams to offer. Until then I'm no richer tomorrow than today.
 
Chris, theres a nice set of Andrews 1s cams on ebay right now that are perfect drop in's for your bike....BadBillyB
