    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It's criminal Don, that's what it is!

It's the same for sooooo many things. I look on Alpha Sports for a part then speak to a stealer here and it's not a bit of difference like the exchange rate, it's 50 - 100% difference!

Then of course all the business' here whinge you don't support them when you can buy exactly the same product for half the price from the USA.

One of these days they may wake up and smell the salts... or else they'll all go broke and we'll have to buy everything overseas anyways...

It's the same story in NZ. I limit my local support to oil, filters and tyres, simply because I have to.

In our case, it seems to be high margins by the stealerships. They are slowly catching on though, as more of us buy directly off shore.

One importer holds the monopoly on motorcycle tyre supplies. You can get small discounts through retailers, but they are SMALL.

Well, I am still hunting for tires, trying to get the best deal. So far I will be looking at $380 to purchase two tires and have them fitted.

What tyres are you looking at BTW? When I eventually get to that point I was thinking Avon Roadriders as I've only heard good things and they're one of the few that would have sizes to fit.

I got a quote a couple of months ago for a pair of BT45's fitted for $325 from Balmain motorcycles (taking wheels off myself).

MCA quoted me $395 but didn't specify whether it was for BT45's or roadriders & I didn't follow it up at that price.

I'm now just past the wear indicators so was going to get a couple more quotes this week. I'll let you know if I find a better deal in Sydney.

Yep .. it's a classic. Now that the Aussie dollar is at parity with the US dollar you'd think the locals would drop their prices .. but NO! They just keep putting them up calling it inflation.

I just look around for the best shipping prices and ignore the locals for everything.

I just fitted a reduction starter motor to my AMC V8 which I had shipped from the US for approx AU$200 .. the local equivalent was AU$380.

Don't worry America, the Aussies will save your economy by buying stuff off you! :)

Thanks Coady, that will be much appreciated. We need a search engine to look for the best tire deals for us here in OZ.
 
You're right on the money there OZ. I am actually looking at Shinko tires in the U.S. for $68 a piece, I just need to check the freight on them. I am in no real hurry as I have plenty of tread still left, they are just a bit old (0282). Does it matter if you mix and match Shinko 712 and 320 tires.
 
$68 a piece? Man if only we could get that over here... a rough calculation on the exchange rate on the news tonight says you'll be under $200 if it cost $60 for shipping... not bad at all!
 
Hey Don, I've been following this thread with interest, got a bit lost at degreeing the cams... :oops: but congrats on seeing the second rebuild through!

Let us know how you go with tires if you end up getting them from the states. On this side of the ditch we have the same problem with overly expensive bike parts and tires.

Will do. I have not made up my mind completely yet. I might still buy here in Oz. I am still scanning the net looking up prices, etc.
 
Just got an online quote from Dennis Kirk in the states (tkents' tyres) for 136USD shipping.

Total cost for a pair of Avon roadrider AM26 delivered to Sydney $290 USD. That's about $295 aussie dollars at todays exchange rate.

Looks great! (sorry .. didn't notice the photos in the thread before). I'd love wires on mine :( I think you might have inspired me to eventually repaint in an original colour and graphics .. I got all carried away when I painted mine:

Thanks Oz, your bike looks good though. What type of tires are you using at present. I am looking at some Dunlop tires, I'm a bit sentimental about the K81 (TT100) tires. They are a triangulated shape, my old Norton used to just drop into corners with them on it.
 
Is an M48 Michelin tire any good. I can get a new 120/90x18 for the rear for about $25. I just have to check with the guy what the date numbers are on the tire.
