    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can you buy new FUEL pilot screws?

I have a 1978 GS1000 that I've been trying to tune properly for over a year. My pilot screws all have a little ridge on them where the previous owner cranked them down a little too hard. None of the tips are broken and the o-rings are fine, but I can't help thinking that this little ridge is causing a problem with the tuning.

Is there any place that I can buy 4 new screws (with springs and o-rings would be even better)? They don't show on the microfiche from Suzuki, so my local motorcycle shop can't help.

I checked out that site, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see the pilot screws anywhere. (I'm looking for those little EPA screws in the bottom of the carbs that you're never supposed to touch)
 
I rebuilt these carbs about 2 years ago at this point. I also put in a DynoJet kit since the bike did not come with an air box and I had to run pods and it had aftermarket exhaust.

The kits do not come fith the pilot screws. pilot JETS, yes, but the screws are one of those little mystery items. No one is ever supposed to touch them - all the manuals tell you not to and if you do it'll screw up your mixture, etc.

Well, if you dip the carbs in any kind of cleaner, these screws must be removed or the o rings will be destroyed. Turns out, the old rings were pretty much gone anyway. The original screws had been tightened down too hard and gotten grooved up which I'm sure was no good for trying to adjust mixture.

I have 2 extra sets of carbs, one set I happened to be looking over the other day at work and found that they have 4 perfect sets of screws!!!

Thank Heaven! Hopefully I'll be able to get this darn thing running now. I've owned the bike for nearly three years and have only ridden it the first summer I owned it...It's more of a lawn ornament than a bike. Keep your fingers crossed for me - if it warms up soon it'll be out on the road.

The MotorcycleCarbs guy said I had to buy the GS750 K&L part 18-2466 kit (even though I have a 79 Gs1000) to get the pilot fuel screws... They fitted fine...
