Can't find this part or it's name... leaking oil

That looks to me like a leak at the front of the engine flowing between the cylinders. Clean the heck out of that engine and use the powder as suggested.

How do you see a leak at the front of the engine? The oil sensor is behind the cylinders, underneath the cam tensioner and carbs.

I am still puzzling how that leak could barf up 2.5 quarts of oil during a 60-mile ride.

I an replacing the entire oil sensor plate and all the gaskets and o rings. Hopefully this well fix the problem. When I drive, it just pours out. When its idling, its just a slow leak. Ineed to see where to connect that wiring connector though

There's a little copper post on top of the tan sensor switch in your picture. The wire connects there.

I didn't say I saw it

ok... update. I think it may be coming from underneath my starter.????

ok. here is a pic of the situation... any input would be helpful. if you need info just ask me and I will answer. Im still leaking oil quite badly.

While you are there, rebuild the cam chain tensioner. You have to remove the carbs to do it, so do it now while the carbs are off and you won't need to touch it for another 10-12 years.
Here is the procedure.

Why are we telling him to change so many parts when there is NO CLUE YET where it really is coming from? I have not seen any definitive word from him that he found the exact location of the leak? All I'm seeing is I'm seeing oil here and here.

Please, before you take anything else apart or spend money on buying any more parts, clean things up and make sure where the leak is coming from. I had to do that last year and knew exactly the leak was coming from the pushrod seal. If I hadn't taken that time to really look for it I'd have been into the oil pan for no reason (although I did swap that out anyway over the winter but that's a different reason).

Im with Cowboy. Power wash the engine after a good soaking of some simple green or similiar grease cutter. Blow it dry with an air hose and spray the area with foot powder and then start it and keep looking for the first signs of oil.Leave the starter cover of too just in case the rubber seal between the stator cover and engine case has failed. This too is a possible culprit but untill you degrease and properly diagnose you may as well just push it in the shed and say the hell with it.

Shouldnt ever power wash a m/c engine. I know, I've done it, and pushed water where it shouldnt be. It may remove paint too. I would use engine cleaner, a garden hose and nozzle (sparingly) and compressed air or even a leaf blower. My opinion.

Hmmm ...then maybe my 2500 PSI washer is a little biitch and hasnt pushed water into an engine ever...nor has a car wash for that matter. Cant seem to find any missing paint either..just sayin.

i blew paint of my dads 2009 flhtc  with a 2500 psi power washer trying to get the bugs of the front fairing he was so mad he didnt talk to me for 2 weeks

I've been power washing my bikes for 25 years and never had a problem pushing water where it don't belong. Or washing paint off, and for years I used a high pressure steam cleaner still no problems.:-k

good glade u havent had a failure with anything you where power washing i have not been so lucky ive put lines in wood decking, broke the seal on windows, takin paint off a motorcycle all with different tips supposedly the right tips for the application and im 23 years old so i wonder is your power washer 25 years old? lol mines a karcher btw i use honda brite and a hose works great every time from dirt mud oil whatever spray it let it soak hose it off

Holy cow, I'm surprised you've have anybody still willing to offer advice when you won't even follow simple advice of cleaning the mess to determine where it's leaking, here's a simple solution, run the bike dry, and when the motor blows, put another one in, leak solved, unless it has one too, then repeat... A lot of knowledgable guys are trying to help, but you won't let them.

are there any seals inside the starter box i see in the pic there is alot of oil inside it ? for the members has any 1 ever put oil die in 1 of these old machines do you think it would hurt it ? or possible good way to help find leaks ?

Review the respones..In one i remarked that theres a rubber seal thats part of the stator wires. It fits into a U shaped groove BETWEEN THE STATOR COVER AND THE STARTER WELL HOUSING AND THAT A SOURCE OF LEAKEAGE ALSO. To be more precise...the rubber seal stops oil from running into the top section of the cover where the starter gears are. If oil gets in there, then theres a direct route for it to get up into the starter well as in your pictures.
