    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Can't get my '82 GS750T started...

I can't get my '82 GS750T started. I posted this before here, but have since done some work on it. I cleaned/rebuilt the carbs, checked the valve clearances (most of them were too tight), and it has new spark plugs.

Just like before, the starter turns the engine over, and that's it.
So far as I can tell (with my no experience) it's not firing. I grounded the plugs before the rebuild, and #1 and 4 today. I checked #1 and 4 float bowls and gas ran out from them, today, but did not check before the rebuild. So it's getting fire to the plugs, and fuel to the carbs, and the valve clearances should be right (first time doing that). What else could be wrong?

Edit: Oh yeah, I also changed the oil and filter. Didn't check out for scent of gas, though.

Rebuilt the fuel petcock, and now it leaks. Didn't have a problem before, of course. So I'll be ordering a new one before I get out and about. Don't want to order before I know that it's the only thing that I need.

Have you tried starting fluid to see if it will fire ?Are all the carb lines on the right places.Is it flooding with the choke on?When you rebuilt the carbs did you bench sync them?Did you prime the carbs first before starting.Just a few thoughts.
 
Try to start it and pull a plug and see if it's wet.

Make sure you have a fully charged battery.

I was told that starting fluid could be bad for the engine, so I'm leary of doing that. The carb lines are all right. I didn't bench sync the carbs, but did prime them first.

Doesn't she have to be running/warm for me to check the compression? Will someone please give me a step-by-step?

Battery's charged, I'll check the plugs next time I get to work on her.

Ok, I checked and the plug were dry. Pulled the carbs back off and bench sync-ed them. Tryed to start it again and same thing. I'll check and make sure there's fuel in the float bowls, to be extra sure. Got to test with starting fluid, as well. Next is compression, I guess.

Mine's an '83 and it currently starts first time, every time!

Although, it's also waiting for a replacement axle so I can finish mounting the front end from the crash.
