    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

car horn on a gs?

Has anyone ever put a car horn on a gs? I tried but one wire (orange) has a constant 12 volts when i hooked up both wires horn wouldn't work. Do I need a relay?
 
how many connections on car horn. if only one then you need a relay.

We have twin horns on the 850. I used a relay just out of principle. The stock horn wiring uses a constant hot wire to one horn terminal, and grounds the other terminal through the handlebar button. To install a relay (assuming the usual Bosch-type fog light relay available at Auto Zone, Wal-Mart, etc.), connect the hot horn wire to #85, the other wire (that goes to the button) to #86. Connect relay terminal #30 to the battery (using a fuse, of course), then connect #87 to your horn(s). If the horn has a single terminal, just make sure it mounted to a well-grounded point. If the horn has two terminals, run the wire from the relay to one terminal and connect the other terminal to ground.

Recommendations...any of the automotive horns will work. A combination of high and low tones works better. There are generic horns or Wolo or Fiamm. The Fiamms tend to be a little shrill and sound like an Italian car, the Wolos may or may not sound very good together, but the generic ones work quite well. You might even go to an auto recycler and get a pair of horns off a Chevy or Ford so you KNOW you will sound like a car. \\:D/

I took the horn out of my 87 nissan pickup and put it on my friends 86 honda cb450sc. Bolted right on and works great. I put an ahooga horn in my truck.
 
Fiamm air horns work well. You can get anything up to quadruple (4) note types. Twins are probably the best IMHO. They should fit in front of the engine where the original horn sits.
You need to follow the wiring digram on the pack and always use the relay.

When you stand on those puppies people will know you mean business.

I have a set of musical horns on my Ford Ute (pickup) that plays La Cucaracha.

I have a standard american style horn on my 1000G but it will be replaced with a Wolo badboy

I have one on my 83 1100E and it works very well for scaring people into ditches and stampeding cattle!!
I have the Scotty mono pod mod and the horn fits perfecly above the battery out of sight.

I switched my horn from negative to positive and wired it directly to the battery (with an inline fuse). No external relay is necessary and it works great.\\:D/

The direct lead (fused and to the positive side of the battery) would have been the ground on the car...the positive side, now becomes the ground and is routed through the original switch. Hit the switch and the horn blows...sounds...makes noise...? 8-[

That's the one part of the equation, that I've not figured out yet. If I hit the switch and they all "BLOW" at once, will my speed be reduced by the factor of volumetric flow, equal to but opposite, that of the horns combined volumetric output? If so, will the velocity be equal to or greater than my forward motion, and if greater, is it possible to "BLOW" the horns constantly and in a sense, be driving into a continuous vacuume and therfore, get my fuel economy into the 100mpg range? So many questions! :-D Yes...........a thumbs up will do just fine. \\:D/
 
got it. like an interior light on a car.(the horn too for that matter) got do something about a horn this year , try to squeeze one up under the fairing cause they don't last long in the stock location, I think the heat from the exhaust kills them
