    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm trying to save the carbs I got on this gs450. They have been sitting for 6 years and are stuck. This is what I got so far. I heard about having to drill parts out? Not sure if genuine or bull ****.

I'm trying to figure out if this carb is ready for a bath yet. I don't know if I am missing something with an oring somewhere or not. Any advice, or you guys think I'm good to dunk this bad boy?

Drilling really only necessary if something snaps off. (maybe the pilot jet?)

Soaking is always good and my release any stuck parts. Blow through with an air line. Look for poor mating surfaces with signs of corrosion.

I have restored 3 wrecks that were sat outside for
up to 20 years .....
On all of them I have done the following.

Carbs off , strip internals and simmered carb bodies for 30 mins
in a lemon juice and water solution.
(1-2 bottles lemon juice in a big fish steamer I use)
Can take banks of 4 carbs without splitting)

Carb cleaner and blow out all bits , jets.
I use thin welding bits cleaner wire for the jets.

This has worked for me on carbs that looked in a
terrible state. All the bikes are still in use and fine.

(Use fuel filters if they can fit on , it
would have saved my sanity when starting
up the bikes for the first time )
 
Looks like your ready to dip them. The `drilling' is normally to remove a plug that the factory uses to cover up the air/fuel mixture screw. It looks like it has already been removed on yours. If your using carb dip, as long as all the rubber is out then you're good to go. Don't put the slides/diaphragms in.
 
Thanks for letting the input everyone! I'll try finishing up the cleaning this weekend. Just didn't want to toss it in the Chem dip with rubber somehow getting missed. I'll let you know how it goes. :)
 
Guess no one likes lemon juice !

Do wrote up what you did , removed and result.
I for one like using lemons .

Which one is that? You mean the copper pipe sticking out with the holes? That appears to be part of the main jet fuel tunnel thing I think. It lines up with it perfectly.

Remove all bits from carb bodies , set aside and clean.
Simmer carb bodies with nothing in for 30 mins.
