I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Good evening,

i recently purchased a gs550 in a box! Currently trying to work out what's what!

One engine was was fitted with slide carbs, the bike also came with some cv carbs which I would rather fit, I have found some carb rubbers in another box that fit the cv carbs but the hole spacing is different to fit them to the cylinder head,

i guess my my question is, are the later cylinder heads that the cv carbs are fitted to different and can the cv carbs be fitted to the engine I have?

Thanks in advance

Tim

Yes, the head is slightly different in the area you noted. Regarding the boots, could you slot the holes to get the screws to align?

I think the center-to-center measurements between the ports are the same, but the '80-'82 heads have larger ports to match the 32mm CV-style carbs.

To install the CV-style carbs on the earlier heads, you would have to find a way to smoothe the transition between the port sizes, or you will have a LOT of turbulence in the intatke port. Probably to the extent that it will not run well at all.

I do commend your desire to run the CV-style carbs. I think they are the best thing going on the street. The slide carbs might work better on the track.

.

Thanks for the replies guys, I have managed to source what I thought was another set of the earlier slide carbs..... But once they have arrived I have found they are slightly different again,

these dont seem seem to have the pilot screw on the underside and also the removable jet next to the main jet??

Any ideas?
