    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok guy i need some brain power. i have too sets of carbs one set are stock cv gs750e carb's the other set are mikuni's think there called smooth bore's..
all i know is one set is run off the vac on intake and the othere is not.. plus with the smooth bores are faster from idle to full power .. a faster turn then the stock one's that feel im turning the grip much more..
what set is better for street/dragbike and why. i dont know much about carbs..

As you stated, smoothbores are controlled directly by the throttle, while CV carbs respond to vacuum changes - this gives them a little smoother transition, but a slower responce to throttle changes when compared to smoothbores.

For racing purposes the smoothbores are the way to go.
 
As long as you roll the throttle instead of just yanking it open as you do with CVs the smoothbores will behave themselves on the street.

OK. so with that said. why do i have to turn the grip less with the somoth bore's. it feels like i have more power with the cv and more topend
 
If you yank the throttle open with smmothbores you lose intake velocity and the bike will bog. If you're up in the rpm range yanking the throttle open isn't a big deal, but down low all you'll get is a little burping and lose speed. That doesn't happen with CVs because vacuum raises the slides, not the wrist. The RS flatslides I use on my bike deliver way more power than the stock CVs did. You just have to be careful and roll the throttle on. If you're making more power with CVs the smoothbores are either jetted wrong or need a good cleaning, or both.
