Carb jets and pod filters

Just wondering about the carb on my bike ( 78 GS 1000).
I have 4 into 1 V+H exhaust and just installed pod air filters.
the jets on the carbs are 110, should I be changing these to 115 or higher or do I leave them as is?

I find it interesting that you already have larger jets in the carbs. Stock jets are 95.

Assuming you are using quality parts, the general rule of thumb is to increase the main jets 2-5 sizes for a pipe (depends on the restriction of the muffler/baffle) and another 4-6 sizes for pods (depends on the quality/type of filter material).

Assuming you might have decent pods and a street baffle in the V&H, I might start about 8 sizes larger, which would put you about 115. This can move a couple os sizes either way, depending on your pods and baffle choice. Keep in mind that plug chops will be your ultimate tool to see if the jetting is correct, and you will also need to play with the needle to get the mid-throttle correct, too.

Plus some tweaking of the pilot circuits to sort out starting, idle and low throttle cruising.

I'll try the 115's as it was running well with the 110's. As far as the pods go they are decent, they filter well and cleanup easily and I'm sure they all roll off the same Made in China factory.
Not sure what plug chop is so I guess I'll be doing some more reading and get it done.

How should the pilot jets be set? I was told 1 1/2 turns out but I'm sure that's just rule of thumb. Everyone has a different take on it and I'm easily confused?

Personally, I run K&N filters and pods. Other members have recommended APE pods, at about half the price as K&N, and the same quality and performance. Those are the only two brands I would think of using.

No, not all pods roll off the same line. There are a lot of JUNK pods out there. EMGO springs to mind first. Stay FAR away from the junk.

The 115 are in and the bike starts and runs good. Too cold to ride , only -11 with the wind chill.
Thanks for everyone's help.
Always makes things a little easier when you have good support.

Wind chill while riding a motorcycle.... Now that cracks me up. Any reported windchill would be irrelevant and actually amplified by KPH/MPH. I ride year round and it does get below -11C even here in GA.;) Get your butt on that bike and go for a ride.:)

Snow and icy roads are other factors and its going to warm up above freezing here in the next couple of days. Trust me I've had enough of this winter but I'm in no hurry to drop the bike. I'm just so happy it's running well now and I don't have to take apart the engine.
Now I can start repair on my other bike. Crack in cylinder head from exhaust pipe stud bolt being over tightened.
But that's another story that I'm sure I'll be back asking for everyone's expertise and support.
Now It's time for a cold beer and keeping warm.

I have had K&N's on previous bikes and currently have the APE pods on my 1100E. If the APE's aren't made in the same factory as the K&N's they have to be right next door, I can't see any differences between them and am perfectly happy with the APE pods.

Finally better weather for a ride. Everything firing on all 4 cylinders now.
It's running better then ever.

I'm running 132.5 jets in my '78 GS1000E with 4-1 exhaust and pods. It is dialed in correctly. That would change for differences in every motor and there are probably slight differences with the stock needles but I am betting you are running way too lean. Those jets probably need to be at least 130's. Good luck jetting with stock needles, they are not designed for the changes you have made. A Dynojet jet kit is. https://www.z1enterprises.com/dynojet-carb-kit-gs1000-1978-79.html
