A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Carb leaking fuel and idle too high

Hi all

I have a Suzuki GS450Ex 1981 with the Mikuni BS34 carbs. I have just cleaned them and got them on the bike and finally the bike starts and runs on its own fuel, not just the start gas like it did before. However the idle seems a little too high and I can't adjust it down no matter how much I adjust the idle screw. I guess the intake boots could be old? But I wonder as well, could it be that the air box needs to be replaced too? Does it matter that it seals correctly between the carb and air box or is it just important between the carb and the engine?

Secondly the carb is leaking fuel from the T-line I suspect? Having a hard time finding a t-line that will fit the carbs and a company/seller that ships internationally (I'm in sweden). Any one got any good tips on where to look, preferably a link to an eBay item that they know fits. I can only find ones similar that are for the yamaha xs, will they fit, which models have the same carb?

Thanks for any advice

Suzuki still makes the fuel-T. It is listed on Bike Bandit, so you should be able to order it from a dealer or online parts dealer. They wanted $36.00 for it, but it's a part that is necessary. The seal between the carbs and air box are very important. Too much air will cause a lean condition and you will never be able to adjust them properly. Get those problems sorted out and that may cure the idle problem.

Make sure there is some slack in the throttle cable. :-k

Look where the cable attaches to the carbs. The inner cable should be loose when the throttle is closed.
If it is tight, make an adjustment either at the top (next to the throttle grip) or at the bottom, where the cable attaches to the carbs.

Thanks for the advice. I will replace the o-rings on the intake boots and give a closer look to the throttle cable. Hope that helps.
