    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello all, Im new here so feel free to start the newb jokes. I was gifted a 1980 gs 1000g and with parts off the bike when the po couldnt finish the job of the bike and the draw back for me is the carbs were taken apart and in all the peices were put in a gallon bag mixed together. and now i have no where to even start to clean and put back together since I have never even worked on carbs before. till I get the carbs fixed I am stripping every wire off the bike and making a new wiring harness from sratch.
 
Oh Boy.... A newbie with a carb problem. Just what we need;)

Actually, I am in a similar state. I have a GS1000S with the carbs apart. My first go at, too.

I tore them apart (gently), and ended up breaking the 1st float bowl post.

So, I am dead in the water until I find a replacement body.

You will find a lot of good help here, including a step by step rebuild guide.

I printed it out before I started and took pictures along the way.

Well, sorting all the parts out and seeing what you have 4 of would be a good start

Then referring to a parts fiche for the carbs would provide some guidance

What makes you want to cut off the wiring harness?

Thanks basscliff, and big t the old wiring is so messed up from the po nothing was working the way it should and so now I will have a fresh wiring harness with good solid connections and good grounds, I have started to separate the carbs but still not very good at them so i was thinking of out sourcing the carb problem to a more quailfied person. And as always Roll Tide Roll
 
Bama23, if your lucky, you could find someone on this forum who you could send them to for help.

Vmass, if you press the pin all the way through the broken post, then using a vice, put a slight bend in the other end of the post, just the end - it will create enough tension to keep the broken post tightly in place. I've run like this for years without problems. Works on CV carbs at least.
 
If your mechanically inclined, then putting the carbs back together shouldn't be that hard with a good parts fiche. Now synching them might be a differnt story, I had no problem cleaning my carbs, but had to outsource the synching.

The GS carbs are a piece of cake....I'm finishing up a Honda right now....holy ****, you wanna talk about a pain!

Check out basscliffs website, there's a million pictures, and literally step-by-step procedures.

I also keep a ****ton of pictures on my phone of GS mechanical stuff I've done. Don't hesitate to ask.
