DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok so back in January i ordered a rebuild kit for my 450t, and im just now getting the time to getting to putting them in. but one problem after i got the carbs off and looked at the gaskets i ordered they dont match, now im not to worried about the gaskets as mine are in good shape but im wondering if i could use the float needles if they would match. i dont want to open the package if i cant use them. so how compatible are most of the float needles for these bikes? my bike is an 81 GS450T. my gaskets look like this...

the kit i bought is this.

sorry i know its not a whole lot of technical info but its what i can think of right now.
and if someone can point me in the right direction of a proper rebuild kit because when i search in ebay all i find is the ones like i already have.

thanks, yah i just pulled the old float needles out and compared them, and the new ones are about 1/4 inch longer than the old ones, so no go on that.

Get the real deal ones from Parts Outlaw or from Ebay as long as they are the correct part numbers. Copy and paste part numbers from off the fiches and see what pops up on Ebay. Compare prices and if they have free shipping..then weigh how lomg you want to be down waiting and make an informed decision is my advice.

Wrong length on the float needles also means the stated float hts in the service manual are no longer valid either......

Don't bother with a rebuild kit. Totally disassemble and dunk everything that isn't rubber in a carb bucket or ultrasonic cleaner.
Get OEM float bowl gaskets and a GS450 O-ring kit from cycleorings.com (cheap, fast shipping, owner is a member). The jets you have are likely still good unless a PO chewed them up with an ill fitting screwdriver and the ones in rebuild kits are going to be lower quality.
