    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1980 GS1100E and a 1980 GS1000E. I have a set of bad carbs on my 1100E and was wondering if the carbs form the my 1000E will work on my 1100E. The carbs on the 1000E have never been off of the bike. I am working on my 1100E because I have almost completely rebuilt it. The carbs are my final thing to complete. If any one knows where I can get a good set of CV carbs I am in the market.
 
Bad carbs ? What is wrong with them ?? As long as they are not physically broken they are fixable
 
Air Fuel mixture screw on 2 of the carbs is stripped out.

Sorry to come off as a novice GS lover but I am actually and old member that has been out of the loop for too long and had to resign up. My last pin name was the Boozy Creek Beast and a few years ago a designed (with the help of others) a Tshirt for a ride that we did in North Carolina. I like your web page it has alot of information that I need to finish my bikes. Thanks for your help!

To answer your question, it looks like both bikes use BS34SS carbs but with slightly different jetting. See the chart HERE.

Looks like I'm in the same boat as you are. Air screw in my second carb is NOT coming out. Let it sit for 24hrs in oil but didn't help at all.

Stripped out much of the screw already. Tried to dremel in new slot but the brass just gives when I try to use the screw driver.

Tomorrow I'll try to borrow a reversed drill bit to extract the entire air screw but I'm not very hopeful and pretty worried about ruining the entire carb body. If anyones got any suggestions I'd be interested too. I've thought about heating the carb body (just torching the front where that air screw sits to see if the metal expands at a different rate) but not sure if that's a good or bad idea. Sounds like I may need a mechanic after all. Ugh.
 
I removed a troublesome airscrew by heating the carb body in the oven at about 250 degrees. Because the coefficient of expansion is different, it loosened the screw and I was able to remove it.
