DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Try 1-3/4 turns out on the air screw, lets more air in which leans the idle mixture. My 550 runs perfectly with the screws adjusted like that.

yeah i got them to start leaning out... at 1 3/4, but now the bike runs like crap no low end to mid power what so ever.. im running pods with stock exhaust.. iv changed my main jets from 80 to 90 and now i guess i should change my needle position down a notch i just don't know what else to do.... Pilot jets need to be changed?

Oops, didn’t realize you had modified the bike. You might want to do some plug chops in the different throttle position zones to make sure you are not misinterpreting the reason for the flat spot you are experiencing.

yeah.... well i went on and moved my needle up one notch and that actually helped alot.. did an eye ball sync and set the air screws to 1 3/4 and it ran great (still idles rough though, which could be because my battery is completely shot).. three of my cylinders are lookin much better, however one is still too lean for my taste... i guess im on the right path just have to keep tweaking:?. thanks for your help Nessism, ha EVENTUALLY im goin to get this beast right!

EVENTUALLY im goin to get this beast right!

Doubtful without a true synch and at least a working knowledge of which carburetor screw does what at which throttle position.

On a VM the airscrew does nothing except at idle.

Just get a bigger hammer.

if the air mixture screw only adjusts at idle then what controls its mixture at other levels? (other than the obvious jets and needle)

The obvious jets and needles.

As soon as your off the idle circuits it depends on the mechanical nature of the needles to enrich as the throttle is opened.
