A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Carbs out of order ??? 1-3-2-4 ????

These are not my carbs... my rack currently has the center 2 carbs swapped, I think. please check the pic, is this pic correct ?? the air screws should be as pictured ? ( left-left-rt-rt,l looking from left to rt )
my air screws are facing left-rt-left-rt.
I believe the p.o. mixed them up, so I have 1-3-2-4.
I'm kinda sure, so I'm going back to garage to move them now, just hoping you guys will confirm.
thanks again.

So maybe that's why the bike ran really "goofy" over 6000 rpm?
Both outer carbs had the vents blocked, and the 2 inner had no hose... just open vent.
Jeeeeze.... this is never ending !!!
Someday, I will get to actually RIDE this bike !!!!!

The vents on #2 and #4 are drilled through to the floatbowl. They give an atmospheric pressure reference so the carbs can meter fuel correctly. They need to be open, the hose on or off is not as important. Usually the hoses are removed to run with pods, and leave the hoses on if using an air box. The hoses just go up over the airbox and dangle there unattached on the other end. The nipple on #3 should be drilled through to the carburetor bore, it supplies the vacuum to operate the petcock. If you are using a non vacuum petcock, it needs to be capped off.

I'm not seeing it. What specifically leads you to think the carbs are out of order.

the pic is not his carbs, he is using this pic of his mates carbs to compare it with the carbs he has got, which are obviously in the incorrect order

Again, look at how the carburetors are drilled to be sure. #3 is drilled through to the bore. #2 and #4 are not. The air screws are not always on the correct side.

The simplest way to determine which carb is which is to sort them by air screw side, as you note.

Then, check the intake side and look for a hole in the bore - that is #3

check the fuel ports and sort out #1 and #4, you won't be able to see thru them

The last carb, #2, has the air screw and vent on the left and you can see thru the fuel port

I am confused, in these pics you have VM (i think) carbs on it but in your Craigslist ad it looks like you have BS carbs on it?
Whats up with that?

let me clarify...
I gave up on the whole bike.
Yes, I'm selling it now.
Stock VM26 carbs.
Loud ET, I don't have a craigslist ad. Yet.

If you gave up on something this simple (after getting a bunch of correct answers), you may as well just sell the bike now.

.
And Steve assassinates yet another promising GS newbie. :p

It's not that this -ONE- thing has me stumped...
I know I could get though it if I cared anymore.
But it's the "I gotta fix the carbs, and I can ride it tomorrow".. only to find I need another 3 weeks of tinkering and another $100 I really didn't want to spend...
EVERY (Bleeping) TIME I TOUCH THE BIKE.
It has become "work" to me. I already have 2 jobs. 3 is not "fun" anymore.
