All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, anyone who was with me in North Carolina know's my grief.

Something happened and for some reason I just can't get #2 carb back in synch.

I show them really close on the Mercury Stix, however - I just can't get her to idle right.

It's like this: She'll idle at 2000, if I adjust it just a hair - she want's to die. THere seems to be nowhere in between.

HELP!!!!!

Frustratingly Yours

Dave

P.S. All the plugs look great.

Clogged idle circuit? At 2000 rpm, I'd expect it's drawing though the lower portions of the needle jet.

What he said. Dave, pull your carbs out and clean out all the openings again. Specifically the float needles and idle circuit. It sounds like you have a clog in either the fuel supply or the idle circuit somewhere. Most likely a dirt particle.

It takes very little dirt to disturb the harmony in your carbs.

Two ideas:

Pull out the offending idle jet and try to look through it, while holding it up to a good light.

If it is blocked, (which it seems highly likely to be) then run a tiny strand of wire through it. A single bristle from a wire brush, with one end held in a cork or eraser, will do it.

That should loosen the piece, and may be all you have to do, but the dirt may just move away from the opening, and still be there. To clean it for sure, use a carb spray with a long nozzle/tube . Hold the nozzle against the tiny orifice and blow the cleaner through it.

Install an in-line fuel filter.

Thanks all.
I DO have an inline filter.

It seemed better this morning. I will check it out some more. If I have to pull these carbs again. argggg. I'll have to go POD's.

Thinking on it overnight, I had just synched my carbs and it took me a while. The the Temp gage didn't show hot, it may have been hotter than usual.

We'll see.

So, Mark, can I just ship my bike up to you and let me know when it's done? :D :D 8)

edit: Ron, damn glad to see you posting again. Give my best to Tam.
