    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone ever done this?

Does not look like there's an easy way to do it as the airbox cannot even be moved back due to the frame tubes being in the way!!!
 
I had mine out twice. Its a real tight squeeze but they do come out. Loosen the air box and push it back as far as it will go. That will just barely give you the room you need.
When you put it back together be sure to lube the intake boots and the air box connections with something like silicone grease that won't attack the rubber.
 
I've just recently done this on my 550. The best advise I have for you is to remove most of the air box components under the seat. There is a lot of electrical bits attached to the box but they aren't a problem. You can't actually remove the thing because well... you can't get at it. I loosened up the carbs from the boots and pretty much rocked them back and forth till they popped out. There is enough play to get them out without problems.

Things to worry about are the throttle cable, the choke cable, and the clutch because the choke and throttle are attached but the clutch runs along side. Just take your time and make sure you label and remember where everything goes. It's just important to take it slow and not really force things. Let me know if you have any quesions.
 
No need to take a bunch of stuff off the bike, just loosen the two screws on top of the airbox at the front (near the tank hold down bolt) and one screw on the right side of the airbox. After this, slide the airbox back a bit (about 1" is all you will get). Not a fun job but doable.
 
When I removed my set I found that screaming & yelling at the them didn't help, but made me feel better.
