    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Changing magneto cover on GS450TX

OK, I'm about to do another thing I've never done before. I've got an NOS magneto cover, a new gasket & screws from Bike Bandit, and a new emblem to top it off.

After I drain the oil and take the old cover loose do I have to worry about anything falling out? Gears, springs, Cadbury eggs, or anything? Nothing attached inside that I'll have to switch out? Basically, is it as simple as I'm thinking, like, pop off/pop on and fill with oil? Is the gasket enough to seal everything or do I need any kind of glue or?

It should be a straight swap Herb 8)
 
No sealer on the gasket. Install it dry. If it makes you feel better you can wet that gasket with the slightest little bit of non hardening fuel resistant sealer. I do that depending on the application. Just real light. Like paint it with it and wipe off the excess.
 
Also you shouldn't have to drain the oil, you may only get a few t spoons of oil leak from that cover when you take it off.

Yup, did mine on the side stand with the stand in a bit of a dip in the driveway and no oil at all came out. Good tip John, save him from draining the oil needlessly.

Put the new cover on yesterday. It's pretty. :D

Lost one tablespoon of oil, no prob. It's sad, but I wasn't expecting that magnetic electricky looking wiry round thing. All the screws in there were stubborn, but got 'em out. No idea what it's all for, but moved it to the new cover.

On with the new emblem and wha-laa! Now I need the cover that goes just behind the magneto cover over the front sprocket. The current one is somewhat chewed up.

John, I'm not ready to handle that carb job, yet, but, hey, I know someone you should ask....Hoomie!

Truly, sophisticated be ye speakin', yet that scurvy barnacle encrusted schematic on BikeBandit, money-suckin' wench that she is, be callin' it magneto, me Cleburne matey! T'was not me doin', ta use a chum covered word like magneto, aaarrrrgggghhhhh! Aye! :P
