    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

charging issue?

i bought a brand new battery, charged it and checked with a volt meter. The stator was making power while the engine was running. I went for a 20 mile or so ride, shut it off, restarted, rode another 5 or so and shut it down again, except it wasnt cranking almost like it was dead. Its been hot today, 100 degrees or so and i was on a mix of stop go, and back road riding. I waited about 10-15 minutes and it started right up. Rode home shut it down and it restarted fine every time i tried. And its been fine so far. Could it be the heat effecting something? If so what? Any other tests i could do?
 
It could be a starter problem. A starter that isn't working properly can work intermittently, and heat can exacerbate the problem.

Extreme heat is hard on batteries and will cause them to sulfate and self-discharge more rapidly, but that doesn't appear to be the issue in your case.
 
You need to get a voltmeter to figure out exactly whats going on with your charging/electrical system.
 
I would vote for a starter problem as well, classic symptoms. Does the bike actually turn over quicker and fire just as you let go of the start button? If so, the starter brushes are probably worn.
 
it doesnt seem too, although this is the second time it did it. First time im not sure if the battery was dead but it was showing the signs so i put it on a 2 amp trickle charge. I didnt remember to check if the lights were dimming or not. Can i just rebuild my starter, and where can i get the parts?
