A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Cheap SERIES(????) R/R : VRRPM3 from OMP

*******************************************************************************
Latest Updates:

I went by Salty Monks house to test a TRIAL unit he had bought from OMP-Oregon Motorcycle Parts
.
Despite the inquiries and the claims this is an unbalanced SHUNT very similar to the original Suzuki R/R's

BOTTOM LINE THIS IS A SINGLE LEG REGULATING SHUNT DESIGN Circa 1977

results here for the IT IS NOT A SERIES R_R

NOITISNOT_SERIES_RR RESULTS HERE

I thought it sounded too good to be true.

There is no technical reason you coudl not buy a SERIES R/R for under $100, but coming from out-of-the-blue from this hole in the wall place :( (special vendor arrangement, when all the other R/R's he have a clearly SHUNT type)

Gotta give Jim some real credit here. His testing of this unit has potentially saved dozens of fellow GSR members from wasting their time and money, thinking they were getting a series R/R.

I know he can be anal and isn't often accused of being a tactful writer, but I for one do appreciate the work he's doing on behalf of our GSR group :tiphat:

Gee whiz I'm gushing all over :-&

Half the cost and a direct bolt in.

Yep, best "bang for your buck" in town. Thanks Duane.

Kudos to Dan and Jim for taking the time to really check out this new unit. You guys are our very own "GS Mythbusters" team! :D

It was great to see you last weekend Jim. Sorry you couldn't make it Dan. It was a fun little wrenching party.

All the best to you and yours,

Cliff

Bill helped to :). Next time will hopefully be with bikes.

Yes sorry I missed it. It was good to check the unit out & saved me a job... I'll stick with the Mosfet unit I have on there for now, I'd like a series but $200 is a lot to justify.

Hopefully the vendor will accept the one I bought back :)

I hope so too! I believe what they have done is actually illegal if they object... false advertising.

Has anyone informed OMP of our findings? I'm curious how they would respond to these allegations.

I was just looking for this thread to ask the same thing... I see Salty Monk has his for sale now, so I'm guessing they didn't want to refund it...

That was EXACTLY the path my mind took.

And it doesnt look like SaltyMonk is going to get his money back from the guy.

Not everyone has the same refund policies I do unfortunately. I don;t think I will be buying much from that guy.

Me neither... false advertising and then no refund. In this country that's illegal, probably is over there for you guys too...

Any body pursuing this thread there is no a SH-775 which is a Shindengen SERIES R/R that is much cheaper than the Compufire.

I have not seen any measurements from it but there is nothing to suggest it is anything else but an balanced SCR implementation of a SERIES R/R. In contrast the Compufire is a MOSFET design based on the measurements that I took.

Because the MOSFET drops less voltage than the SCR, there is more voltage available at low RPM and less power dissipation for the MOSFET design./
