    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Choke problem Part deux

OK, as we were trying to fix the problem of my choke not staying on(I'd have to hold it on while the bike was warming up, otherwise it would just retract back in) I made another problem for myself. I tried pulling the choke knob off so that I could slide a washer down the shaft as someone had suggested. Well, turns out that knob didn't want to come off real easily and I pulled so hard that something got screwed up down by the carbs.

So now, if I open the choke, I have to manually reach down and open it with my hands because if I push down on the cable, only the cable moves and the choke stays closed(also enabling my choke cable to come off from the motor which is EXTREMELY hard to get back on if you're out somewhere and don't have any tools).

So anyway, any suggestions on why it's sticking closed? And yeah, the return spring is hooked up, but I think we bent something or screwed something up when we were pulling on the knob. I just don't know what exactly it is that we screwed up.
 
AT this point you may need a new cable ?? Check the linkage on the top of the carb see how much slack is in the cable.
IN the future if you pull the choke all the way up & turn it 1/8 turn it will stay up. you can also tighten the knurled nut
 
No no no, the cause of that problem is well known(I do in fact need a new cable).

The problem I need fixed now is the fact that my choke won't open. When I push the cable back down, it definitely does go down(and slides right out of the linkage) while nothing in the motor moves. Something is wrong down by the motor and I was wondering if anyone had an idea what is causing it to stick.
 
The carb linkage is pretty simple -- give it a once-over -- that's probably where your problem is. First take off the tank so you can see. Make sure the cable sleeve is still clamped in the holder arm and that the cable and retainer at the end are still properly attached to the carb linkage. Work the mechanism by hand, make sure it's still moving and opening/closing the choke slides and that nothing's bent/broken. Then work the choke lever while watching the linkage and see if you can identify the problem.
 
Done all of that already. The retainer is still on the cable and everything, the reason it comes off is that the linkage stays closed while the cable continues to operate correctly and it slides right out of the linkage.

Something is causing my choke to stick closed until manually opened by hand, any ideas? We think we bent something when we tried to pull of the choke cable knob, but not sure what.
 
How hard do you have to push on the choke linkage on the carb?

If you have to push hard on the linkage maybe the metal slide (the the choke cable attaches to) is bent? Maybe the spring on the metal slide popped off?
 
I just barely have to turn it and it pops open(there's a little thing that a return spring attaches to on the far left side of the #1 carb that I turn).
