A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My sig is the bike. I took the carbs off to adjust the floats, put them back on and started it using full choke. I let it idle on choke for about a min or two, took the choke off and slightly throttled on and off for about a min or two. Wanted to take a quick ride so I got my helmet, put it on and went to start it where it only clicked when I hit the starter button. Didn't turn over at all. I can hear the clicking sound every time I hit the button as many times I want, but it wont turn over at all. Didn't touch any electrical, just the carbs. Just really weird and not sure where to check. Thanks in advance guys.

Hearing a 'click' is good. At least you know you are getting power halfway from the battery to the starter. Grab your test light, ground the clip, check the starter side of the solenoid. When you push the starter and hear the 'click', the test light should come ON. If it does, move down, remove the cover to the starter, make sure you are getting power there, too. If you are, check your starter mounting bolts. They are your ground connection, if they are loose, you may have problems. If they are OK, your starter is at fault. Might be as simple as cleaning the carbon dust out of it, but might also need new brushes.

Thanks, I'll have to do that when I get a chance. I guess it was better to find this out in my driveway then somewhere else when I would shut the engine off and try to start it again.

Well it's definitely the starter. Probably the one electrical thing that I have not replaced. Unfortunately I have stripped the two main screws after letting it soak in wd-40 and using a small torch to heat it up still made it strip. After 28 years I'm wondering if those screws were even made to come out:-s. So I'm going to just buy a new starter. Lowest prices around that people recommend and what type? Thanks.
