As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey

So I finally got my GS550ES 1985 working and out on the road.
Whenever I have the bike sitting still and I put it into first gear, while fully depressing the clutch, I feel a good clunk, from the engament. As if the clutch was not fully depressed and so its like you were trying to put it into gear without disengaging the clutch.

The clutch plates are halfway worn, I measured their thicknesses and the whole clutch mechanism is adjusted per the service manual...

Any ideas? Or is this normal on this engines/..

This issue only happens when you are sitting still and you engage first gear. after that all gears engage very smoothly and nice.

Mine has always done this on occasion. I can find no explanation as their is no set of circumstances that are the same.

It may be a clunk in the chain and the cush drive if the chain is loose?

Yeah I though about that.
The chain is brand new with the same one that suzuki uses. The continuous chain with no master link.
The play on the chain is adjusted to the specs on the maual, but it was on the tight side. I have been riding the bike and now the chain has loosen up some and so its been softer at engaging on first.

Think I just need to keep riding and wear things in, the bike only had 9K miles on it original. So I know its pretty much a new drive train...
