A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clutch basket - what does it all mean Basil?

It looks as if the shop has buggered up my clutch basket altogether...

I am going to be in the market for another... This time I'll buy my own welder and fix up the damn thing myself!

Just to confirm - if the Bike Bandit part number is the same in between years that means it's the same part right? I can then order from Ebay...

Oh well... at least I've got something to do! ;)

Bike Bandit part numbers are unique to them, look up somewhere like alpha sports to get the correct suzuki number for cross referencing.

The Suzuki has a spacer, not a shim, at the end of only three of the springs. They have a step on them that fits inside of the spring so it won't come out. Don't put pain flat shims in there. When they come out they will find their way into the transmission.

Why don't you just have a clutch basket done by those that know how to do them. The one you have in the photo could still be used as a core.

For one thing, it's not automatically necessary to change all the clutch drive/driven plates - measuring them first could save you a bunch of money. Most common reason for clutch slipage is worn springs which are quite cheap.

Regarding the play you are experiencing, the number one problem with these GS clutches is the large nut in the center tends to come loose. Please check that first. Second, the spring cushion mechanism between the outer basket and the large gear develops slop. If you remove that large nut and remove the basket you will see what I'm referring to. You can repair this yourself by shimming the springs but some members around here till tell you to rebuild the clutch hub with a heavy duty backing plate and springs. Check this link for more details... http://www.theflyingbanana.com/clutchhub.htm I did the spring shimming on one hub and it's worked fine and was cheap. Also, buying a HD hub nut is recommended - either an 1150 nut or one from a place like APE.

So how good is the 1150 hub nut compared to the APE. I guess it would fit my '83 1100gl and be somewhat of an upgrade from the 1100 stock nut. With the sale coming up at Blvd Suzuki I think I could probably get a stock 1150 nut for $5 or less with free shipping. Thnx Jim M

Thanks, yes the number for the 1150 nut has been updated. I think it is still different from the 1100 number. I'll go back and look some more. The parts search didn't show them being for the same bike but that might not pick up the new change.

someone on this site ordered an 1150 hub nut this summer...
they got the thin 1100 nut.
just saying is all.
5-6 bucks is worth a try.
