clutch cover identification

i bought a big box full of GS1000 bits off ebay the other day, turns out to be a pile of assorted bits from different models, gsx1100 oil filter cover, gs850 battery box, honda reg/rec and so on........

the clutch cover looks similar to mine but has a few differences.
there are 2 "lugs" on the bottom left and right corners and there is no indent by the filler cap where the origonal oil capacity sticker was.

can anyone identify exactly what model this cover is from please (see pic)

yes, exactly the same, its the lugs on the bottom that confuse me. later model or earlier model? and the lack of indent for the oil capacity. import model maybe?

Not an early G model.. Later model Gs had a bit of an angle to em.. IRRC the 16v 750s had the indent (actually no indent, it was stamped into the cases..) on the cases themselves near the clutch cable stay... I have one somewhere out in the garage.. It looks as though it might be just that..

FWIW, the 1100E STATOR cover has some odd tangs on it that dont go anywhere, yet the gasket covers them. They dont even mate on the cases anywhere.. never understood that..

the lugs on the bottom of the clutch cover are not part of the mating surface either, i guess they were added as a lever point to aid cover removal

look at the cover on the b.o.m... I can't see the lugs in the photo, but I will check mine later on "my" evening.

I think the chain drive 1980 engines have those tabs on the bottom of the cover but I don't know going backwards when it could have started. My guess is Suzuki added them to aid removal and filled in that sticker groove at some point as well. Oh, and the shaft drive 1000 engine uses a different cover.

thanks, just needed to know as once its polished up i may well fit it to mine and sell the one thats on the engine at the moment.
looks better without the indent and i will grind off the lugs

cracked it......thanks to wes cooley's new thread. the clutch cover i have is identical the the cover on the GS1100e he is trying to buy. guess it wont fit my 1000 but at least i know what model it is now
