    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Clutch disc question

I am changing the clutch in my 1979 GS1000E. There are 8 fiber plates in my clutch. I purchased 8 new fiber plates from a site sponser. The new K&L plates measure 3.5mm thick. My old plates measure 2.5mm thick. I called the supplier and they assured me this was the correct part number. As you can guess I can only fit 7 plates in the basket. Has anyone else come across this? I checked the Suzuki factory parts and the old disc number supercedes to a new plate number showing only needing 7 plates. Has anyone purchased new genuine Suzuki plates latley? If so how many were needed and how thick were they? Or better yet has anyone installed K&L clutch plates in GS1000 latey and how many were needed?

The service manual says the standard thickness when new for drive plates is 2.7-2.9mm, replace when less than 2.4mm. I'm assuming that the drive plates mentioned were fibers.

Yes, I saw that in my manual also. I am talking about the fibre plates.
Rusty--what part number were those, the old superceded part number or the new number? The plates you referenced were for a 1980 GS1000 according to the Suzuki parts fich, they list different for 78,79 as well as a different number of plates.???
Maybe I am making to much of it.
 
They were supposedly p/n # 21441-49002

The complete p/n chain for my 78 GS1000E is...

The frictions are called plate, drive
The steels are called plate, driven
 
I just went with the 7 plates. The basket is full so as long as the discs don't slip Igues it'll be OK.
