    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i took the clutch cover off to replace a leaky gasket on my 82 gs1100L today and while it was off i figured i would check the clutch plates. i unscrewed the six spring bolts and i took the plates out. they checked out ok so i put them back inside in the right order and tigthened the six spring screws and put the cover on. now i cant get the clutch to disengage. is there something i missed? if i pull the clutch in, and try to push the bike it will slowly move but the clutch is dragging alot. i tried adjusting the free play but that didnt really help. it was fine before, is there something inside i was supposed to make sure of was lined up. i wiped all the oil off the metal plates and clutch material plates. would that cause it not to slip. theres no oil in the bike either right now. any ideas would help. thanks.
 
You are off a tooth on the clutch pinion gear. Undo the pinch bolt and move it a step towards you.
Or you don't have the teeth lined up on the gears of the clutch pull out.
 
ok ill check the those. tell me if this test rules anything out. i got a pair of vise grips and grabed the pinion shaft thing that sticks out the top and turned it all way and clutch still drags. so that would rule out any cable free play or the pinch bolt idea right? so it must be someting on the inside.
 
If I remember right, all my bikes drag when they aren't running, they don't disengage to a point where its rolls as freely as neutral.

Plus if it's all dry the plates probably won't slide as easily in the basket fingers. There is no spring that pushes them apart its just the lack of inward pressure when the lever is pulled that causes them to "slip"/disengage.
I think you can see the plates through the oil fill whole,
look in at plates with lever out, then squeeze cluth in wile looking and see if the pressure plate is moving.
 
yup everything is good now. i fill it with oil and let it run a little then the clutch plates started to slip once i let the clutch in and out a few times while in gear. thanks guys.
