DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I know this because sitting at a stop light, a) it's throttling way too low and stalling, and b) if i'm stopped on a flat grade, it's inching forward...apply brake, release brake....inching forward.

How do I (or DO i) adjust the clutch cable so it's pulling the damn thing all the way?

I'm having a similar problem. The bike hops forward a little when I shift from N to 1st and seems to want to idle too low. I was wondering if it was a clutch issue or a cable issue.

Help two for the price of one, anyone?

mine does that from time to time when it's hot, i think my clutch springs probably need replacing.

Hi guys,

If it's just an adjustment issue, maybe this will help.

You don't adjust it so its pulling all the way. the only thing you can adjust is the free play in the clutch lever. if the free play is correct the cable might be frayed/stretching.
if you can't get enough free play at the clutch hand lever, then you adjust the cable at the case lever side to "add" additional free play.
(adjust the nut by the hand lever to the mid-range, adjust the rh side until the correct free play is obtained and lock it down)

Here's another suggestion. Take a piece of old shoelace or thisk twine and put it into the oil fill for the crankcase so it wicks uyp some oil. smell it. If it smells like gas, the contaminated oil may also be affecting your clutch like it did on my 81 850. Changed oil, adjusted cable minutely, drove it for a few miles and it was back to good adjustment.
A piece of string or twine soaked in oil will burn slowly. If its contaminated with gas, it will burn quickly.

and by squeezing the hand lever, you are dis-engaging the clutch, not engaging it.

Good points, all - but whoever said "the clutch cable may be fraying" wins the 64 dollar prize. It snapped when I went to drive it home tonight. Good thing it happened at startup and not in the Sumner Tunnel.
