    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

clutch question

Bike is a 1982 GS1100G

MY question is could I do something putting on the case that would cause a clutch to appear frozen?

This morning I took an hour or so and put in new clutch discs and springs. All went well. I popped back on the case did a quick tightening and then had to step out for some family duties. I came back several hours later and torqued down case and hooked up clutch cable. Initially clutch way out of adjustment then I adjsuted the clutch and the lever seemed stuck and then the cable broke.

Tommorrow I will put on a new clutch cable I just happen to have.

MY question is could I do something putting on the case that would cause a clutch to appaer frozen?
 
Gears on your clutch pull out and pivot on your clutch cover aren't lined up.
 
that is all I could think of also. will go at it this morning after breakfast.
 
In an effort to resolve a dispute.

Despite the laws of science, it appears as though it did and with pulling off the case and aligning things properly my problem does appear to be resolved.

God takes care of drunks and fools and since I don't drink I must assume I fall into the other category.

Interesting.....The cover has the pinion and the clutch has the rack release and somehow you got the cover on without it being aligned properly. I would suspect that the arm on the top of your clutch cover wasn't where it was supposed to be ( Out of time ).

From time to time there will be some information that is not exactly correct and needs to be corrected. If not it will lead astray a lot of people that rely on this board for accurate information. I am not the kind of person that likes to read through a post and just let something ride if I don't think that the information is correct. This is in no way aimed at you or anyone in particular but I think that all of us that has a good working knowledge of motors and their workings has a responsibility to correct and challenge the posts of others, not to try and start a war but just get the information right for the other, less mechanically inclined users of this board.

Jeff,
I would listen to you a hundred times over before going with my own thoughts. You have been around these bikes for many years and I trust you totally(as others should)
