I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Clutch Release Arm thread size

Forum Mentor
Hey guys,

I replaced the clutch springs on my '83 850L yesterday, and as I was reassembling everything, I couldn't get the clutch release arm pinch bolt to thread into the arm. Upon closer inspection, a few of the threads on the end of the bolt are deformed. I have a cheap SAE tap and die set, but none of the taps were the correct size.

According to my measurements, the bolt is a M5.8 x 1 diameter and pitch, but all the metric tap charts I'm looking at don't list this size. I've looked on SAE charts as well without success. I'm sure my measurements aren't 100% accurate, but I can't even find something close to that size. The bolt threads are easily salvageable, I just need to find the right size tap and die to chase the bolt threads and clutch arm threads. Does anyone know what size I need? Or what the correct bolt measurements are?

Items #28 and #29 are what I'm referring to https://www.partsoutlaw.com/oemparts/a/suz/50d40207f8700230d8b4e64c/clutch

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think your measuring was pretty good! but there has to be a tiny it of slack somewhere or the screw would never turn! and the slack probably protects the sharpness of the thread a little too...?

Definitely, I know there's a tolerance to allow movement, but I wasn't sure how much. I probably should have just taken a step back and used common sense lol.
